Free Crochet Pattern: I Love You Dude

Ok, so here is my I Love You Dude. I made him from a cute pic I found while surfing. I have had a few people ask for the pattern, so I am posting it for free. I hope you like him :)

Materials: white ww yarn ( I used Red Heart), red light ww yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft)
size E crochet hook, tapestry needle, fiberfil, black felt, hot glue gun,  (keyfob, if desired)

stitches used: magic ring, single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), slip stitch (sl st), increase (inc), and decrease (dec)


Pattern notes: this pattern is crocheted using continuous, rounds,mark your first stitch in each round and move marker up as you go. hint: try using a bobby pin they are very easy to slip in and out of stitches :)


Body
with white yarn:

rd 1. 6 sc in magic ring- 6 sts
rd 2. increase around- 12 sts
rd 3. (sc 1, inc) around- 18 sts
rd 4. (sc 2, inc) around- 24 sts
rd 5. (sc 3, inc) around- 30 sts
rds 6-10. sc around- 30 sts
rd 11. (sc 3, dec) around- 24 sts
rd 12. (sc 2, dec) around - 18 sts
rd 13. (sc1, dec) around - 12 sts this is a good place to begin stuffing 
rd 14. dec around - 6 sts
fasten off, leaving a tail.


Feet (make 2)
with white yarn:

rd 1. 5 sc in magic ring - 5 sts
rd 2. inc around - 10 sts
rd 3. (sc 1, inc) around - 15 sts
rd 4. sc around - 15 sts - stuff
rd 5. (sc 1, dec) around - 10 sts
fasten off, leaving tail for sewing



Arms (make 2)
with white yarn:


rd 1. 4 sc in magic ring - 4 sts
rd 2. inc around - 8 sts
rd 3. (sc 1, inc) around - 12 sts - stuff
fasten off leaving tail for sewing




Heart (make 2)
with red yarn:


rd 1. ch. 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook (pull sts tight) - 6 sts
rd 2. inc around - 12 sts TURN
rd 3. hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, (hdc,dc,hdc) all in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sl st in last sc of previous rnd. fasten off

* for second heart, do not fasten off. Holding heart pieces wrong sides together and working through both pieces:
ch 1, sc in each sc, 2 sc in each hdc, 3 sc in dc, around. Stuff before closing. Join and fasten off leaving tail for sewing.



Assembly
using photo as a guide:

roll the body between your palms a bit to make your dude egg shaped. Cut two oblong shaped pieces of black felt (I used a dime for the basic pattern, then trimmed the sides a bit), and glue them to the body using the photo as a guide.
thread yarn on tapestry needle and sew legs to the bottom of the body to where they are almost touching.
sew heart to middle of tummy area.
sew arms to side of body, then stitch them to each side of heart.
attatch a keyfob through several stitches at the top of the body, if desired.
